A glass jar holds a single germ. After one minute, the germ splits into two germs. One minute after that, the two germs each split again, forming a total of four germs. Continuing at this rate, a single germ can multiply to fill the whole jar in exactly one hour.
Knowing this, how long in minutes would it take to fill the jar if you had started with two germs.

Jennie got it already. Come on everybody!!!! Let's get those germs filling those jars!!!!!
She did?! This one is beyond me. My mind is boggled. I'll keep thinking though.
I'm probably way off, but if I were taking a test right now I would just guess 30 minutes.
58? This one is hard...I don't think my answer is right though...I hate math.
You are REALLY hot! Almost there Chiemi!
ok- I TOTALLY give up on this one! I even asked a coworker to work on it, and they haven't figured it out either. Answer Please!!! :)
Okay. Here is a really big big clue. If it takes a minute for the germs to double and at one hour the jar is full . . .
59! Please tell me I'm right!!
Ding, ding, ding! We have a winnah!!!!!!! Ding, ding, ding!!!
Fazjizj!! I want a multi colored toothpick purse please. :)
I'm beginning to see a big crafts project for Easter beginning to form in my mind. Something involving lots and lots of multi-colored toothpicks. Hmmmmmm.
LOL! We should have a contest! I'm excited for easter at your house. It's always fun, not to mention GREAT food!
We're looking forward to it as well. Maybe we'll have an Easter hunt for multi-colored toothpicks. LOL And btw thanks so much for that darling picture of Arwen that's my wallpaper -- I smile every time I see her.
I'm way late to the party again, but the answer is that it would take only one less doubling of the germs because you don't need that first minute to go from one germ to two. Starting from one germ takes 60 minutes, so starting with two germs takes 59 minutes. Hope that helps, Kellie (and coworker)!
P.S. Chiemi, you're way smarter than you give yourself credit for. Way to go!
Awww hun, you're so sweet.
