A man has been prescribed 10 pills. Starting today, he must take one pill a day, but because the concentration of the medicine is different in each pill, he must take them in a specific order. Since the pills all look the same, the man has decided to write numbers on each pill to help him remember the order he needs to take them in.
How many pills does he have to number if he wants to keep track of the order?

My first guess was 9, because he could leave one blank, but then realized that he would take the first one, then label 8 and leave the last one blank. So after much thought:
8 is my final answer!
That was really fast!! Let's see -- a toothpick pill box? LOL
Yes! I'm glad I went with my second guess. I kept coming back and thinking that maybe I was wrong and it was actually 9 and I wasn't doing it right. Lucky me I saw this almost right after you posted!
It took me a bit longer than usual this morning because I was trying to figure out how to post a picture but I didn't succeed. But I'll keep working on it. But congratulations!!
Good job, Chiemi! I was going to guess nine because I didn't even think about not needing to number the last one. haha! If I were in that situation I probably would have labeled all of them!
Christy, I need your email. Email me at kellielarsen@gmail.com
Hey, I actually had to think about this one for a minute before I came up with the correct, non-obvious answer. Good show!
