Last night the seas were tumultuous. The tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew the Minnow would be lost. Ooops sorry – but it was that bad last night. The winds howled, the ship was creaking, Tom thought he was being tossed from bed. Long story short we arrived at Gloucester this morning and the sea was simply too rough for the tenders to be launched. As an unwilling victim of the bad tender system from the previous day I was happy about that. However, that meant that we didn’t get to go to Boston and Cambridge.
So they told us wait and we’ll let you know what’s going to happen and long story short they arranged for us to berth in Boston. So we had trivia and bingo this morning. Won the first, lost the second for those keeping score.
So we lounged around, I finished Snuff (Terry Pratchett’s new book – LOVED it by the way) and then they announced that we would get a lightening tour around Boston – two hours by bus – everything you wanted to see in Boston. Keeping in mind, of course, that our original trip was 8 hours in length you can see that we abbreviated everything. But under the circumstances we were grateful that they scheduled anything.
So we drove around Boston. Unfortunately most of the things they pointed out in the bus didn’t come out in pictures including the mother duck and her ducklings from Make Way for Ducklings in Boston Common. Boston was a lovely city but I’m sure Kellie and Brett will have better pictures than us – maybe we can steal some.
So we came back to the ship, we played trivia again – since we were the only people from our group of six playing we lost. Then we played Liar’s Poker – lost that as well. Then we went to a sumptuous dinner.
So tonight is the first night since we left Montreal that we will not sleep with gale force winds and wild seas. And the sounds of the ship does mask sounds. For the first time we can hear our neighbors. The bad part is that the ship is leaving at 5 AM. Hopefully this will be the start of better weather for us. Tomorrow the Cape Cod Canal.
